Launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government over the Farrukhabad incident where two teenage girls were found hanging on a tree in Bhagautipur village, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said that the government is 'sleeping' and that law and order have collapsed.
Yadav emphasized that similar shameful incidents are occurring across cities in Uttar Pradesh, with crimes against women and daughters on the rise. 'Chain snatching is constantly happening, businessmen are being murdered,' he said.
Referring to the upcoming by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav remarked that the PDA coalition (Pichhde, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak) would defeat the BJP, despite complaints to the Election Commission about caste and religion-based false cases.
Days after the bodies of the teenage girls were discovered, police declared the deaths as suicides following post-mortem reports and arrested two accused for harassment. Farrukhabad SP Alok Priyadarshi stated the accused had harassed the girls, leading to their suicides. However, families raised suspicions of murder, citing injuries and inconsistencies in the story.
'We demand a correct investigation and justice for the girls,' said the father of one of the deceased. Chief Medical Officer Farrukhabad, Avanindra Kumar, confirmed that the post-mortem showed no evidence of sexual or physical assault.
