Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George on Friday declared the launch of the Kusum B and Kusum C projects aimed at tackling power shortages in districts like Kolar. The initiative promises significant regional benefits.

George convened a meeting with district representatives, BESCOM, and KPTCL officials at the Kolar Zilla Panchayat office, detailing Kusum B's progress in solar pump set installations. Subsidies from both central and state governments will reduce farmers' costs to 20%. The scheme has already seen widespread farmer enrollment and support.

The Kusum C Feeder Solarization Project will install solar power units to directly supply substations, ensuring consistent power availability. George emphasized that this initiative would also financially benefit local infrastructure projects. The state, he added, has surplus electricity, and further needs would be met via agreements with neighboring states. Alternatives like wind and solar power are being considered for remote areas.
