Indian Navy Mobilizes Flood Relief Amid Heavy Rains in Gujarat

In response to requests from the local administration due to flood-like conditions following continuous rainfall in Gujarat, Indian Naval flood relief teams stationed in Porbandar and Jamnagar were deployed to bolster Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Two rescue teams from Porbandar, equipped with specialist gear, were dispatched to Morana and Fatana villages to aid in the evacuation of the villagers.

Meanwhile, rescue teams from Jamnagar, equipped with necessary equipment, were deployed near Bedi Marine Police Station and in Jamnagar town. These teams successfully evacuated 50 elderly individuals to safer locations. Additional rescue teams are on standby, prepared to provide further assistance as needed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for Friday in several isolated areas of Gujarat, including Kachchh, Morbi, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Porbandar. According to IMD, the forecast includes moderate thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds reaching 40-60 km/h, accompanied by heavy rainfall of up to 15 mm/hr in these regions.

IMD also predicts moderate rainfall in isolated districts such as Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and Amreli, along with light thunderstorms or lightning, with wind speeds below 40 km/h and rainfall between 5-15 mm/hr. Further, light rainfall of 5 mm/hr is expected in districts including Diu, Banaskantha, Patan, Mahesana, Sabar Kantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Botad, Bhavnagar, Anand, Kheda, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Panchmahal, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dangs, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadar & Nagar Haveli.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the Gandhinagar State Emergency Operation Center on Thursday after arriving from Vadodara, following the forecast of heavy rains and potential storms. During his visit, the Chief Minister assessed the system's readiness for the natural disaster via a video conference with District Collectors, issuing urgent instructions for necessary evacuations to protect residents. Chief Secretary Rajkumar and senior secretaries were also present during the meeting.

Gujarat has been grappling with heavy rainfall over the last few days, causing severe flooding in various parts and displacing hundreds of residents. (ANI)
