The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) announced on Friday that starting September 1, any consumer failing to pay electricity bills within 30 days will face power disconnections.
The move comes following a recommendation from the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), and it will be strictly enforced from the specified date.
BESCOM advised that domestic, commercial, and temporary electricity consumers must ensure timely payment of their bills. Failure to comply will result in disconnection on the meter reading day, typically within the first 15 days of every month.
The current procedure involves meter readers and linemen revisiting premises with outstanding bills to disconnect the supply. Starting September 1, linemen will accompany meter readers on their initial visit to promptly disconnect overdue accounts.
Consumers are given a 15-day period to pay bills without interest, followed by a 15-day grace period with interest. Unpaid bills will lead to disconnection on the next meter reading day.
BESCOM highlighted that any payment issues, such as delays in reflecting online payments, can be resolved by presenting payment receipts to avoid disconnection.
