A delegation of women from Odisha submitted a memorandum to Governor Raghubar Das on Friday, condemning the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical Hospital in Kolkata. Governor Das assured the group that he would forward the memorandum to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose.
The incident has ignited national outrage, with Governor Das noting that both local administration and hospital negligence are in the spotlight. 'The entire country is outraged by the negligence of the hospital and local administration in this heinous incident,' said the Governor, expressing solidarity with the affected families.
He also stressed the cultural significance of 'Nari Shakti' (woman power), stating, 'We have been worshipping Nari Shakti since ancient times. Such incidents across the country are a worrying sign.' The grievance was echoed by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had previously written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging for prompt central intervention.
