Youth Congress leaders were detained by Mumbai police during a protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, demanding an apology for the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue. Multiple posters calling for his apology appeared across the city, depicting the PM alongside the collapsed structure.
The Maharashtra Chief Minister announced swift action with two committees formed to investigate the incident in Malvan. The Mumbai Congress claimed in a social media post that senior leader Bhai Jagtap was detained, labelling it an 'outrageous abuse of power.' Another post stated that MLA Aslam Shaikh was also arrested.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar visited the collapse site, expressing sorrow over the incident and emphasizing efforts to rebuild the memorial. He assured that those responsible would be held accountable, dismissing debates over naval or PWD involvement. Structural consultant Chetan Patil has been arrested in connection with the incident.
