BJP MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, has lashed out at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann for making 'trivializing' comments about rape. Expressing her anger, the actor-turned-politician took to X to voice her outrage, stating that Mann compared getting raped to riding a bicycle, reflecting the deeply ingrained patriarchal mindset of the nation.
Simranjit Singh Mann had earlier made derogatory remarks about Ranaut in response to her statements on the farmers' protests against the now-repealed agricultural laws. Mann's comments, suggesting that people should ask Ranaut about her 'experience with rape,' have drawn widespread criticism. Former NCW chief Rekha Sharma condemned Mann's remarks, calling for societal censure.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann also criticized the MP's statements, emphasizing that Ranaut should focus on resolving issues in her Mandi constituency rather than making 'absurd' and 'baseless' remarks. The controversy heated up further when the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sent a legal notice to Kangana Ranaut regarding her depiction of Sikh history in the upcoming film 'Emergency.'
