Uttarakhand's Director General of Police (DGP), Abhinav Kumar, has taken decisive action to address crimes against women. On Wednesday, he formed a five-member committee chaired by Deputy Inspector General P. Renuka Devi to develop a comprehensive action plan aimed at preventing such offences and ensuring effective responses.

The newly-established committee is tasked with conducting an in-depth study on various aspects, such as the nature and frequency of crimes against women in the state, identifying vulnerable areas, and evaluating the effectiveness of current police actions. The report will also cover the availability of support services for victims and highlight the needs for enhanced infrastructure and resources in districts.

In response to public inconvenience during religious processions and demonstrations, Kumar has directed district in-charges to work with District Magistrates to regulate such events. The DGP emphasized that events must not disrupt hospital and school functions and must adhere to defined time limits. He also advised that events should ideally be scheduled on government holidays and held at designated locations.

These directives aim to balance the right to public assembly with the need for maintaining public order and convenience, ensuring that essential services remain unaffected during large gatherings.
