The collapse of a 35-foot Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Sindhudurg has sparked widespread political controversy in Maharashtra. Senior Maharashtra Congress leader and former MP, Hussain Dalwai, expressed his criticism on Tuesday, calling the incident a significant embarrassment for the state government.

Speaking to ANI, Dalwai questioned the decision-making process behind the statue's construction. 'If they wanted to build a statue in the water, they should have waited, a decision was anyways being taken to build a statue in Mumbai,' he said, criticizing the execution and respect for Shivaji Maharaj.

Dalwai further claimed that other new constructions, including the new Parliament and the Atal Setu bridge, are facing issues, insinuating that the Prime Minister's involvement has been problematic. The political debate intensified with Shiva Sena (UTB) leader Aaditya Thackeray openly criticizing BJP for alleged corruption and blaming the Indian Navy. The statue, inaugurated in December 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has become a focal point for political accusations.
