On Monday night, unidentified assailants vandalized the idol of Goddess Bhoolaxmi at a temple in Hyderabad's Rakshapuram area, within the Santosh Nagar police precinct. The police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident which has sparked widespread outrage among the local community.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the South East zone, Kanti Lal Patil, confirmed that the vandalism took place between 11.30 pm and 12 am. The suspects were quickly apprehended thanks to CCTV footage, with one identified as the main perpetrator. Investigations are ongoing, with current findings indicating no political motives behind the attack.
Local BJP Bhagya Nagar district president Samreddy Surender Reddy emphasized that the incident occurred in the Chandrayanagutta Assembly Constituency's Riyasat Nagar division. He alleged that the local corporator and his associates are responsible for repeated attacks on the temple over the past five years. Despite the temple's proximity to a police station, he claims that proper security measures were not in place during the incident.
