Mumbai Urja Marg, an ambitious inter-state transmission project initiated by the Ministry of Power, is set to ensure an additional 2,000 MW power supply to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Official sources announced its formal inauguration, marking a milestone in the city's energy infrastructure.

The 90-km Padgha-Kharghar transmission line is being developed by Sterlite Power and is expected to dramatically enhance the region's power stability. ''The project is ready for formal inauguration,'' officials said, emphasizing its role in supporting economic growth and improving residents' quality of life.

Since its conception in December 2016, the project has gained momentum, especially after Maharashtra's cabinet approved a new land use policy for ultra-high voltage transmission lines in October 2022. The policy change, combined with direct oversight from high-level officials like Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has expedited the project's completion.
