In the wake of mounting outrage over the alleged sexual assault case in Badlapur, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar has called for severe punitive measures against offenders. Addressing a gathering in Yavatmal focused on the Mahayuti government's 'Ladki Bahin' scheme, Pawar advocated for castration of those guilty of crimes against women.

Pawar emphasized that the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP coalition government in Maharashtra would take uncompromising action against anyone accused of such offenses. He stated that offenders should face the full wrath of the law to deter any future crimes. Speaking passionately, he said, 'In my language, I would say that they should be castrated, so that there will be no repeat of the offense.'

While Pawar made headlines with his strong remarks, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, along with other Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders, staged a protest in Pune. The demonstrators wore black bands as a sign of mourning and demanded urgent action against the perpetrators. The protest was a reaction to the alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls, which has led to police action against school authorities for failing to report the incident as required under the POCSO Act. On August 17, police arrested a school attendant in connection with the case. (ANI)
