Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has extended his "heartfelt gratitude" to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the Union Cabinet's approval of the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). In a post on social media platform X, Adityanath lauded the decision, praising Modi's leadership in enhancing the lives of 140 crore Indians.

The Chief Minister described the move as a "revolutionary decision" benefiting lakhs of Central Government employees, promising economic security and a brighter future. The decision was formally endorsed by the BJP-led central government earlier today.

The Unified Pension Scheme, which assures pension and family pension, was highlighted by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Expected to benefit approximately 23 lakh central government employees, the scheme allows them to choose between the National Pension Scheme and the newly approved UPS.

Officials clarified that the assured pension will be 50% of the average basic pay drawn over the last 12 months prior to retirement, contingent on a minimum qualifying service of 25 years. There will be provisions for shorter service periods, with a minimum of 10 years required for eligibility.

Additionally, the Assured Family Pension will be calculated at 60% of the employee's last pension, with a minimum pension amounting to Rs 10,000 per month after at least 10 years of service.
