In a sharp remark, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday labeled the alliance between the Congress and the National Conference (NC) as an 'expired injection,' following its announcement ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls. Chugh, speaking to ANI, asserted that the coalition had been unsuccessful in previous elections and would face a similar fate this time.
Further criticizing the alliance, Chugh claimed that the people of Jammu and Kashmir 'hate these dynastic, corrupt and separatist people,' predicting their downfall in the coming elections. The pre-poll partnership was unveiled soon after senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge met NC chief Farooq Abdullah.
Farooq Abdullah announced that the Congress-NC would contest all 90 seats, declaring 'United we stand,' - a message echoed by the JKNC on social media. After meeting with Congress leaders and his son Omar, Abdullah indicated that seat-sharing details would be finalized by the evening. The upcoming assembly elections, scheduled across three phases from September 18 to October 1, will be the first since Article 370's abrogation.
