Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday voiced his concern about the growing casteism among educated individuals, and highlighted that proponents of caste inequality were responsible for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. This was stated during an international seminar, 'Mahatma Gandhi for the 21st Century', held at Gandhi Bhavan in Bengaluru.

Siddaramaiah emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy and ideas, which championed peace, truth, justice, and brotherhood, are as pertinent today as they were in the 20th century. He referenced Stephen Hawking's warning about humanity's potential search for other planets, stressing the need for tolerance to prevent societal destruction.

The Chief Minister warned that escalating communal sentiments could hinder the realization of 'Vishwamanava' (universal brotherhood), a vision by poet Kuvempu. He criticized human greed for causing environmental disasters and advocated for scientific education to eradicate superstitions. He also commended Jawaharlal Nehru for his rational and scientific approach to leading the country.
