U.S. Sanctions Over 400 Entities and Individuals Supporting Russia
The United States imposed sanctions on over 400 entities and individuals for aiding Russia's war effort in Ukraine, including Chinese firms. Measures target Russia's military supplies, financial systems, and future energy projects. The sanctions aim to stifle Russia's economy and military capabilities amid ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The United States on Friday levied sanctions against more than 400 entities and individuals accused of supporting Russia's war effort in Ukraine, according to the State Department. Among them are Chinese companies that U.S. officials say are helping Moscow evade Western sanctions and bolster its military capabilities.
The U.S. Treasury Department is also targeting transnational networks involved in procuring ammunition and other materials for Russia, helping Russian oligarchs evade sanctions, and laundering gold for sanctioned entities. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo urged global companies and governments to ensure they are not aiding Russia's military-industrial chains.
The Biden administration has added 123 entities to its restricted export list, requiring suppliers to obtain licenses before shipping to these companies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy applauded the U.S. for the new sanctions, stating they would weaken Russia's ability to continue its aggression. These sanctions also aim at Russia's energy sector and other international firms allegedly assisting Russia in circumventing sanctions.
