Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, engaged in a discussion with farmers in Patna, emphasizing the critical role of agriculture as the backbone of the Indian economy and the soul of the nation’s farmers. Expressing deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shri Chouhan equated serving farmers to worshipping God and pledged to work tirelessly for their welfare.

He highlighted Prime Minister Modi's commitment to accelerating efforts for farmers' welfare, as declared from the Red Fort, and praised the Government of Bihar, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and the Agriculture Department for their relentless efforts in supporting the agricultural sector. Shri Chouhan commended the farmers of Bihar for their exceptional work, despite the challenges posed by small land holdings, with 91 percent of farmers being marginal farmers.

The Union Minister introduced his six-point strategy aimed at doubling farmers' income, focusing on increasing production with the help of quality seeds, reducing production costs, and ensuring fair prices for produce. He announced that the Prime Minister had dedicated 109 species of seeds across 65 crops to farmers, including climate-resilient varieties that require less water and mature faster.

Shri Chouhan also discussed the importance of agricultural diversification and the government's commitment to promoting high-value crops alongside traditional ones. He emphasized the potential of Bihar in leading not just India but the world, through proper utilization of its talent and resources.

Addressing concerns about the overuse of chemical fertilizers, Shri Chouhan highlighted the adverse effects on soil fertility and health. He advocated for the mission of natural farming under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, ensuring that production will not only be maintained but enhanced.

In closing, Shri Chouhan assured the farmers that future programs would be organized directly in the fields to address practical issues, reaffirming the indispensable role of farmers in sustaining the world’s food supply.
