The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Thursday launched 25 challenges under the 'Create in India Challenge - Season 1' for the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES). Speaking on the occasion, Vaishnaw said that today's launch reflects India's growing and evolving economy. He highlighted the creation of a new creator economy, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recognized with the upcoming National Creator Awards in March 2024.

Highlighting opportunities and infrastructure, Vaishnaw said the creator economy serves as a platform to showcase India's rich cultural heritage, lifestyle, yoga, traditional medicine, and diverse cuisine. The Government of India is committed to encouraging this sector by providing necessary infrastructure and talent development. Plans include world-class universities and facilities to enhance creators' capabilities in media and entertainment.

Vaishnaw also stressed the role of new technologies in filmmaking, noting the sector's potential for significant employment opportunities. He estimated the programme could generate 200,000 to 300,000 jobs. Emphasizing social responsibility, he reminded stakeholders to ensure societal welfare throughout this journey, underlining that this responsibility lies with society, industry, and the government.
