Delhi's auto and taxi drivers have embarked on a two-day strike to protest against app-based cab services. The strike, which began on Thursday, has led to widespread inconvenience for commuters, with many drivers refusing to accept rides.

RS Rathore, Vice President of the Delhi Auto Taxi Transport Congress Union, expressed concerns over app-based cab services like Ola and Uber. He claimed these companies are operating illegally and exploiting local drivers by diminishing their earnings. "These companies have disrupted our livelihood," Rathore stated, adding that traditional auto and taxi drivers are struggling to meet their financial obligations and daily expenses.

Rathore further emphasized that if the government does not address this issue, it could escalate into a major problem in the future. He urged for the shutdown of app-based services, citing the economic burden on local drivers who pay significant sums for their vehicles and taxes. "Despite our contributions, our earnings are being taken away," Rathore argued.

Drivers have voiced their frustrations, claiming that app-based services have drastically reduced their income. One driver from Noida criticized the apps for daily fare reductions and lack of support services, highlighting safety concerns with new platforms like InDrive and Rapido. "Cab drivers now earn less than auto drivers," he noted.

The strike has left many commuters stranded as they struggle to find rides. Numerous reports have emerged of drivers charging exorbitant prices and refusing certain destinations. Ishwar, a commuter unaware of the strike, faced challenges in booking a ride to the airport.
