Heavy and unprecedented rainfall in Tripura over the past two days has led to severe flooding, displacing 30,000 people in the affected areas. In response, the state government has established 321 relief camps. Southern districts have been the worst hit, recording rainfall levels of 375 mm and 350 mm respectively.

Educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, have been shut down due to the relentless rainfall. Seven people have lost their lives in landslides triggered by the downpour. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha attributed the torrential rain to a sudden depression in the Bay of Bengal, affecting almost every district. He confirmed ongoing efforts to manage the crisis, mentioning a review meeting that highlighted severe conditions in the south of the state and widespread landslides.

The Chief Minister revealed that various relief teams, including NDRF, SDRF, BSF, police, and volunteers, are actively involved in rescue operations. Currently, 321 relief camps are hosting over 30,000 displaced residents, providing them with essential supplies. Additional NDRF teams from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are en route to support local efforts. Saha also noted the potential for continued rainfall over the next few days, complicating damage assessments, especially in agriculture and horticulture sectors. He visited several relief camps to oversee management and distribute relief materials, and monitored the situation from the Integrated Command & Control Centre in Agartala.
