The Central government on Wednesday accorded 'Z+' category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) armed security cover to NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued the order to the CRPF following a recent threat analysis report from the intelligence bureau.

Soon, CRPF personnel will provide elite 'Z+' VIP security to the 83-year-old politician at his residence and during his travels across India. Over 60 CRPF personnel will be tasked with his protection. Pawar, President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) or NCP(SP), formed the party after the Election Commission of India recognized Ajit Pawar's group as the original Nationalist Congress Party.

Pawar's political journey began with the Indian National Congress. Elected to Maharashtra's Legislative Assembly in 1967, he later served as the state's Chief Minister three times and was a six-time Lok Sabha member. He formed NCP in 1999 after opposing Sonia Gandhi's candidature for Prime Minister. Notably, Pawar was also the President of the International Council of Cricket from 2010-2012.

The CRPF's VIP security wing, dedicated to protecting high-profile individuals, will ensure Pawar's safety with the utmost precision and professionalism. This unit exemplifies CRPF's unwavering commitment to national security.
