In a heart-wrenching incident, a landslide triggered by relentless rain claimed the lives of three family members and injured one in Devipur ADC village in Tripura on Tuesday. The victims were identified as Trisankar Chakma, his wife Ranjani Chakma, 41, and their 12-year-old daughter, Mita Chakma.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha held an urgent review meeting on Tuesday to evaluate the flood situation in the state. The discussions focused on assessing the current conditions and devising measures to mitigate the floods' impact on affected areas.
Authorities have been instructed to ensure no effort is spared in providing timely support and relief to those affected. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Tripura over the next two days, attributing it to a low-pressure area over central Bangladesh.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is expected to move towards West Bengal within the next 48 hours. The monsoon trough currently stretches from Sri Ganganagar through various regions to central Bangladesh.
Intense rainfall is likely to reduce visibility, causing traffic congestion and potential damage to vulnerable structures, according to the IMD. Flash floods, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and landslides are also predicted. An advisory has been issued for residents to avoid waterlogged and landslide-prone regions.
