Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green is leading a delegation of agtech companies to India, aiming to forge new partnerships and explore innovation opportunities, according to a statement from the Australian government on Tuesday.

The four-day mission, which starts on Tuesday, is part of Australia's flagship Australia India Business Exchange program. It will cover visits to Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, and Bengaluru.

The delegation comprises Australian agtech firms, universities, and investors from diverse sectors such as dairy, grains, horticulture, floriculture, and animal husbandry. Discussions with Uttar Pradesh government officials in Lucknow will focus on potential strategic partnerships. The mission will wrap up at Agri Tech India 2024, India's largest agtech conference, in Bengaluru.

"Agriculture is an important pillar of the Australia-India relationship, and Australia has a lot to offer in agricultural expertise," Green said in a statement. "This can improve Indian food security by increasing productivity, sustainability, and food system resilience." He noted existing collaborations that include efforts to combat lumpy-skin disease in cows, organic fertilisers, and advanced grain storage systems.

The mission aims to address shared agricultural challenges like climate change and boosting rural incomes, marking an intensified engagement between Australia and India, who have partnered on agricultural productivity for four decades.
