A 22-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old daughter of his tenant in Northeast Delhi's Karawal Nagar area, police reported on Saturday. The accused, identified as Suraj, was apprehended immediately after the incident.
According to police, the landlord and father of the accused, Kartar Singh, was also arrested on Friday. The police revealed that the girl's family, who live on rent, were threatened by Kartar Singh when they sought help. "The girl lives with her family on rent. On the 13th, the landlord's 22-year-old son, Suraj, raped the girl. When the girl's family went to inform the landlord, Kartar Singh, he instead threatened the family. Both Suraj and Kartar Singh have been arrested," said Delhi Police in a statement.
This case emerges during a period of heightened tension, marked by nationwide strikes and protests from the medical community following the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 9.
