In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police arrested drug smuggler Gulab Singh on Saturday. Singh, identified as a main accused in the 77kg heroin recovery case, has been at large for nearly a year, according to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. Singh's apprehension marks a major step in disrupting the cross-border drug smuggling networks.

The consignment, which had been smuggled via the riverine route, included 77.8kg of heroin and three pistols. Singh played a pivotal role in the delivery of 36kg of the contraband and maintained connections with Pakistan-based smugglers. Two separate cases had been registered in connection with this racket, and Singh was a wanted accused in both.

Senior Superintendent of Police Faridkot Pragya Jain shared that a meticulous technical and human-intel-based operation led to Singh's arrest. Police units from CIA Faridkot, Special Branch, SHO Sadiq, and Technical Cell, under the supervision of SP Investigation Jasmeet Singh, managed to nab Singh at a bus stand in Rupyianwali village. Police investigations continue to trace the money trail and freeze assets obtained through illicit drug proceeds.
