In a remarkable turn of events, Delhi University has reported that within 24 hours, a staggering 72,277 candidates have accepted their allotted programs and colleges, outstripping the total number of available seats which stands at approximately 71,600.

This comes after the first round of seat allocation, where 97,387 candidates were assigned seats. To ensure optimal filling of seats, the university decided on extra allocations. The academic session for the first semester is set to begin on August 29.

Providing an update on the seat acceptance process, DU Dean of Admission, Haneet Gandhi noted, "As many as 72,277 out of 97,387 (till around 4:10 pm) have confirmed their seats by accepting the college and program offered to them." Seats were allocated based on the unique Common Rank, and candidates have until August 21 to submit their fees.

Admissions are being conducted for 71,600 seats, exclusive of supernumerary seats, across 69 colleges and departments, encompassing 1559 program-college combinations. According to records, 2,45,287 candidates applied for Phase-I of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS(UG)), with 1,85,543 completing Phase-II by submitting their program and college preferences.

The university received 1,72,18,187 preferences. This year, a new feature on candidates' dashboards allows them to view details of cutoffs and ranks that determine seat allocations by category and quota. (ANI)
