The central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the much-anticipated nod for Phase 3 of Bengaluru's Namma Metro. The approval came through on Friday, marking a significant step forward in expanding the city's metro network.

The new Metro Phase 3 will span 44.65 kilometers, stretching from Vega City Junction in JP Nagar to Kadabagere on Magadi Road. The line will traverse Bengaluru South and aims to provide an efficient, economical Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) for a diverse commuter base, including employees, students, and the general public. Estimated to cost Rs. 16,333 crores, the project is expected to ease traffic congestion and offer a sustainable transportation alternative in one of the city's busiest areas.

"The approval of Namma Metro Phase 3 is a testament to the speed and efficiency with which the Modi government operates," said BJP MP Tejasvi Surya. Surya has been actively involved in the approval process, holding various meetings with the Ministry of Urban Affairs. His concerted efforts included discussions with newly inducted Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and officials from the Finance Ministry. Last week, the Union Finance Ministry greenlit the project.

"Bengaluru's mobility has received a big boost with PM Narendra Modi-led Cabinet approving two corridors for Namma Metro's Phase 3," Surya tweeted. "Corridor-1 will run from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura with 21 stations, and Corridor-2 from Hosahalli to Kadabagere with 9 stations." Surya added that the BJP government under Basavaraj Bommai had prioritized the Detailed Project Report (DPR), and the government of India approved it within months, exemplifying the BJP's pace of development. The central government's rapid approval will benefit all 1.10 crore Bengalureans, Surya emphasized.

Throughout the project's approval process, MP Tejasvi Surya was engaged with both state and central authorities. He conducted several meetings with cabinet ministers, Urban Affairs ministry officials, former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, and top officials from the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance. Highlighting the critical role of a well-connected metro line in easing urban congestion, Surya called for early clearance of the project. He also stressed the need to invest in public infrastructure like metro lines and bus feeder systems to transport large numbers of people efficiently. (ANI)
