The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Friday gave the green light for the development of new civil enclaves at Bagdogra and Bihta airports. The initiative, aimed at enhancing airport capacity and efficiency, was warmly welcomed by Union Minister for Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu.

Naidu said, 'I am pleased to share that the Cabinet has sanctioned two critical projects that will significantly boost the capacity and efficiency of Bagdogra and Bihta airports. These projects, with a combined investment of Rs 2962.00 crore, are crucial to our strategy of improving regional connectivity and meeting the burgeoning demand for air travel across India.'

The civil enclave at Bagdogra, involving Rs 1549.00 crore, will feature a 70,390 square meter terminal designed to handle 3,000 peak-hour passengers and an annual capacity of 10 million passengers. The project will include a 10-bay Apron for A-321 aircraft, link taxiways, and a Multi-Level Car Parking facility, focusing on sustainability with renewable energy sources and natural light.

Similarly, the Rs 1413.00 crore investment at Bihta Airport aims to address congestion at Patna Airport. Covering 66,000 square meters, the new terminal will initially accommodate 3,000 peak-hour passengers and 5 million passengers annually, with room for expansion to 10 million passengers. Infrastructure will include a 10-bay Apron for A321/B-737-800/A-320 aircraft and link taxiways.

Naidu added, 'These projects go beyond mere infrastructure expansion; they reflect a forward-looking approach to meeting future demands and spurring regional economic development. We are committed to delivering these projects on time to the highest standards.'
