Speaker of the National Assembly of Mauritius, Duval Adrien Charles, called on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the Parliament House Complex today. Birla congratulated Duval on his appointment and was pleased that Duval's first State visit as Speaker was to India, noting this as a testament to the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.

Birla expressed hope that under Duval's leadership, the cooperation between India and Mauritius in international parliamentary fora such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) would continue to grow. Birla also referred to India's 78th Independence Day celebrations, highlighting the success of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign that saw millions of Indian families hoisting the National Flag at their homes.

Highlighting the depth of international relations, Birla noted the ongoing socio-economic transformation in India, culminating in its emergence as the world's fifth-largest economy. He credited this progress to democratic debate and dialogue. Birla also spoke about the shared cultural heritage between India and Mauritius and the continued strong people-to-people connections, evident by the annual visits of thousands of Indian tourists to Mauritius.

Birla pointed out the critical role of the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) in enhancing parliamentary training, benefiting legislators from over 100 countries. He urged for enhanced parliamentary cooperation between India and Mauritius through delegation exchanges to strengthen diplomatic ties further.

Duval expressed his honour and gratitude for visiting India, congratulating Birla on his re-election as Lok Sabha Speaker and extending his greetings on India's Independence Day on behalf of Mauritius. Calling the bilateral relationship a privileged one, Duval highlighted the support from Sansad TV to the Mauritius Parliament and emphasized the need for closer cooperation in digital technology and training initiatives.
