In a high-stakes encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, security forces eliminated one terrorist on Wednesday. The operation, still underway, saw the recovery of an AK 47 and an M4 rifle, with intermittent gunfire continuing, according to White Knight Corps.

Amidst ongoing search efforts by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, Additional Director General of Police Anand Jain visited Doda, where the troops pressed on despite the loss of Captain Deepak Singh of the 48 Rashtriya Rifles, who was killed in action.

Initiated on Tuesday in the Assar area, the operation aims to neutralize terror threats. Defence officials confirmed Captain Singh's death while he led a search operation. The Indian Army expressed its deepest condolences to Captain Singh's family.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened a crucial meeting on Wednesday to address the surge in terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, involving key military and security officials. The session took place in South Block, amid rising tensions as Independence Day approaches.

Earlier incidents on August 10 resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and a civilian during a gunfight in Anantnag. The region has seen a spike in terror attacks, including assaults on army convoys and skirmishes. The Ministry of Home Affairs reported 28 deaths in terror incidents and counter-operations up to July 21 this year.
