Subhashini Ali, a senior member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Politburo, has called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The demand comes in response to the alleged rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor in the state.

Ali also suggested that Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw should step down due to a series of rail accidents occurring under his watch. The trainee doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9, with her family alleging rape and murder.

"The case has now been handed over to the CBI. We hope the truth surfaces, especially considering the CM's proximity to the medical college head," Ali told ANI, also questioning the Kolkata Police for initially labeling the death as a suicide and the immediate repair works at the crime scene. Nationwide protests, led by junior doctors and FAIMA, seek swift justice.
