The Delhi High Court has directed several news channels and social media platforms, including Google, YouTube, and Meta, to remove content alleging an extramarital affair involving politician Vijaya Sai Reddy. Reddy, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party, sought legal action to address the dissemination of defamatory material.
Justice Vikas Mahajan recently issued an interim order directing six news channels and various social media handles to remove allegations against Vijaya Sai Reddy. The court determined these claims to be unfounded rumours that could potentially harm the dignity of both Reddy and the implicated woman. The order aims to protect their reputations, recognizing the seriousness of the defamatory nature and the reckless dissemination of the information.
The court emphasized the material presented by Advocate Amit Agrawal, representing Reddy, noting the prima facie substance in the counsel's submissions. The alleged videos and posts were deemed defamatory and libelous, made recklessly without any regard for the truth, intended to damage Reddy's reputation. The court's injunction order requires the specified news channels and social media platforms to take down the mentioned content within ten days.
