The University of Delhi (DU) has advanced five places to secure the 6th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, as announced by the Ministry of Education on Monday. Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh credited the achievement to the dedicated efforts of the university's faculty, students, and staff.
Previously, DU had jumped two spots to reach the 11th position in the university category on a national level last year. This year, it not only maintained its upward trajectory but also climbed seven places in the overall ranking, securing the 15th spot.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has been ranked as the best university in the country, retaining its top position for the past nine years. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), both located in New Delhi, secured the second and third positions, respectively, in the university category. Meanwhile, DU has improved five places compared to last year to secure the 6th position.
Vice Chancellor Singh highlighted that six of DU's colleges are ranked among the top 10 in the country, with three occupying the top spots. Hindu College, Miranda House, and St. Stephen's College are ranked first, second, and third, respectively. Additionally, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College ranked 5th, Kirori Mal College 9th, and Lady Shri Ram College for Women 10th in the list of top colleges.
In the Research Institute category, DU also showed notable improvement, advancing three positions to secure the 14th place, up from 17th last year. Professor Singh attributed this success to the teamwork and hard work of everyone involved with the university and expressed optimism about DU's future performance in rankings, aiming to set new records across all categories.
