On World Elephant Day, the Trichy Forest Department and local residents gathered at the Government Elephant Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Trichy MR Palayam to celebrate the largest land mammal. Trichy District Forest Officer Krithiga participated, offering fruits to the elephants maintained at the center.

The event featured special poojas in honor of the elephants. The Trichy Forest Division manages a total of 10 elephants in this camp. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded community efforts to protect elephants, reaffirming commitment to provide conducive habitats. Modi noted the increased elephant population in recent years.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, expressed pride in the growing number of elephant reserves over the last decade, highlighting India's role as home to about 60% of all Asian elephants. August 12, celebrated as World Elephant Day, reaffirms the global commitment to conserving these iconic animals, regarded as National Heritage in India.
