Egypt is positioning itself to host the 2036 and 2040 Summer Olympics, with its improved infrastructure and sports facilities seen as key to a successful African bid, according to the head of the African National Olympic Committees Association (ANOCA).

Africa has yet to host an Olympic Games, although Cairo previously made an unsuccessful attempt for the 2008 event. Egypt, the most populous Arab country, has invested billions in building modern sports facilities, including the Egypt International Olympic City complex with a 93,900-capacity national stadium.

Speaking at a press conference during the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, ANOCA head Mustapha Berraf revealed Egypt's plans while also noting that South Africa's Cape Town might consider a bid. With other countries also interested in 2036, the competition will be fierce.
