In a tragic incident on Sunday, seven members of a family lost their lives, and three others went missing after their vehicle was swept away by the flooded Jaijon Choe rivulet, located 34 km from the area. According to local police, the rivulet had swollen due to heavy rainfall that impacted several parts of Punjab and neighboring regions.
The family of ten, along with their driver, were en route from Dehra near Mehatpur in Himachal Pradesh to Mehrowal village in SBS Nagar to attend a wedding. Enroute to Mehrowal, their SUV was caught in the swollen rivulet's waters. Fortunately, locals managed to rescue one occupant and promptly transported him to the Government Dispensary in Jaijon.
