Walt Disney announced on Saturday that it will build a new 'Avatar' experience at its Disney California Adventure theme park, inspired by 'Avatar: The Way of Water.' This announcement is part of a series at the D23 Disney fan club event, detailing $60 billion in capital investments.

Disney plans to nearly double its spending to enhance its 12 theme parks worldwide and expand its cruise line capacity. 'Everything that we're going to share with you tonight is in active development,' said Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D'Amaro.

A 70-piece orchestra accompanied the reveal, performing Disney musical numbers while theme park images were displayed. The experiences unit, including parks and cruise ships, contributed 60% to Disney's operating profit last quarter, up from 30% a decade ago.
