PM Modi Pledges Unwavering Central Support for Landslide-Hit Wayanad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi surveyed landslide-ravaged Wayanad, promising comprehensive central assistance. Modi assured that no relief and rehabilitation efforts will be delayed due to funding shortages and emphasized collective action. State and central officials are collaborating for effective rescue missions and long-term support in the disaster-stricken region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited and inspected landslide-hit sites in Wayanad on Saturday, describing the tragedy that claimed over 300 lives as not ordinary. Modi conducted aerial and on-ground surveys to assess the situation, committing the central government's full support for ongoing rescue operations.

During a review meeting at the District Collectorate in Wayanad, Modi assured every possible support from the Centre to aid relief efforts. He met injured individuals and interacted with residents at relief camps, emphasizing that the Central Government stands with disaster-affected victims.

The Prime Minister vowed to ensure no delays in relief work due to funding shortages, promising that the central government would fulfill the state government's requests. He detailed the immediate deployment of NDRF, Army, and Air Force teams and highlighted continuous communication with state authorities, emphasizing collective efforts in rehabilitation.

Modi stressed the need for new long-term schemes to support the affected, especially children who lost their families. He assured that families of the deceased would not be alone, pledging unwavering central support. The meeting included key state and central officials, and concluded positively with mutual commitments to continue coordinated rescue and relief efforts.

State officials requested the declaration of the situation as a national disaster, with CM Pinarayi Vijayan highlighting the region's severe losses and appealing for substantial financial support. The Central Government's Inter-Ministerial Team is scheduled to visit affected areas to review the situation and plan reconstruction and climate change mitigation initiatives.

Over 300 fatalities were reported following massive landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai due to incessant rainfall, according to an ANI report.
