Ukraine's Strategic Strike: Disabling Russian Military Platforms in the Black Sea
Ukraine's navy and military intelligence launched a successful attack on a former offshore gas platform used by Russian forces in the Black Sea. This attack, aimed at preventing GPS spoofing that endangered civilian navigation, was executed with precise timing and resulted in significant damage.
Ukraine's navy and military intelligence have launched a significant strike on a former offshore gas platform repurposed by Russian forces in the Black Sea, a naval spokesperson confirmed on Saturday.
According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, this location was used by Russian occupiers for GPS spoofing, posing a danger to civilian navigation. Pletenchuk shared a video on Facebook that captured a night-time explosion and the ensuing fire on the offshore platform. He indicated that just half a day before the attack, Russian troops had placed equipment and personnel on the platform.
Reuters could not independently verify these details, and there has been no immediate response from Moscow. Following the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, Ukraine lost control over many offshore gas and oil platforms, some of which have been repurposed for military use by Russian forces. Ukraine's actions have successfully pushed back the Russian navy in the western Black Sea, enabling a critical maritime transit corridor for around 60 million tons of cargo over the past year.
