In a significant political development, Congress General Secretary and MP Jairam Ramesh has filed a privilege motion notice in the Rajya Sabha against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Ramesh accused Pradhan of misleading the House concerning the removal of the Preamble from NCERT textbooks.
Jairam Ramesh highlighted that the Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge had raised the issue in the Upper House, where Pradhan claimed that the Preamble was still present in the new class 6 textbooks. However, Ramesh countered this, providing evidence that the Preamble had been omitted in newer editions of certain NCERT textbooks.
Ramesh argued that this action undermines efforts to educate students on the Constitution. The Congress leader requested the Chairman to initiate privilege proceedings against Pradhan. Amid the controversy, Pradhan retaliated, accusing the Congress of spreading misinformation and reaffirming the government's commitment to the Constitution.
