Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma declared that innovation is critical for the state's growth during the 34th Foundation Day celebration at Sonapur College. Urging educators to ignite student innovation, Sarma highlighted India's 40th rank in the Global Innovation Index, attributing it to Prime Minister Modi's leadership and youth entrepreneurship.

The Chief Minister called on Sonapur College's faculty to further nurture students' innovative abilities, emphasizing departments like Travel and Tourism Management and Theatre for fostering entrepreneurial acumen. Sarma underscored the college's pivotal role in advancing higher education in the region.

Dr. Sarma commemorated the college's founders for 34 years of academic contributions and announced Rs 2.5 crore for an auditorium and Rs 50 lakh for a semiconductor skill lab. He also revealed plans to introduce a Commerce Stream and align Sonapur College with the semiconductor sector to boost job opportunities.

Addressing the need to embrace Industry 4.0, Sarma urged academic institutions to develop agendas for skilling youth. He also emphasized the importance of outreach programs to spread education in local villages, highlighting the transparent government employment opportunities for the state's educated youth.

During the event, Sarma felicitated Lachit Kathar and Anwar Hussain, creators of the college song and logo, respectively. Among the attendees were MLA Atul Bora, Dr. Jitram Dutta, and Principal Dr. Debabrata Khanikar.
