Security agencies are set to enhance surveillance around Red Fort on Independence Day with the deployment of advanced artificial intelligence-based security systems, sources revealed.

According to a document accessed by ANI, CCTVs equipped with video analytics will be installed at key locations. These systems will include vehicle number plate recognition, face detection, intrusion detection, and the ability to estimate crowd sizes using AI. 'AI-armed cameras will count the entry and exit of individuals within the premises, facilitating crowd estimation,' an official stated.

The official further mentioned that these cameras can detect abandoned baggage and unauthorized intrusions, ensuring high-level security. The advanced facial recognition system will identify faces in real-time and from recorded footage, comparing them against a watchlist and issuing alerts if matches are found. Multiple faces can be detected and searched across various cameras.

A senior government official elaborated that while facial recognition has been utilized in previous years, this year's security measures will include Number Plate Recognition (NPR) for real-time, continuous vehicle monitoring. Over 700 CCTVs, along with more than 150 cameras featuring video analytics, will be deployed.

In addition, over 10,000 security personnel, comprising Delhi police and paramilitary forces, will be stationed at and around the Red Fort and other critical areas in central and north Delhi. A recent security review meeting, attended by central intelligence and security agencies, highlighted the need for stricter vigilance, especially in light of a recent attack on former US President Donald Trump during a public event.
