A hazardous ammonia gas leak at a food processing factory in the Yavat area of Pune district has left seventeen people hospitalized, police confirmed on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning at a ready-to-eat food processing unit. Among those affected, a woman is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for closer monitoring and better care.
Narayan Deshmukh, a senior inspector with Yavat Police, stated that while the condition of all seventeen individuals is stable, they remain under observation as a precautionary measure. 'The woman who was near the leakage point has been admitted to the ICU for better care and monitoring,' he added.
A team from the Pune Rural Police visited the factory to investigate the circumstances surrounding the leak. The factory's internal safety mechanisms quickly brought the situation under control, officials reported. More details are awaited.
