Parties from across the political spectrum, including TMC, Congress, AAP, and NCP, staged a protest in India's Parliament premises on Tuesday, pressing for the rollback of the 18 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) on life and health insurance premiums.
Protesters were seen holding placards with the words 'Tax terrorism' and chanting slogans to demand the removal of GST on these essential services. They gathered on the steps leading to the Makar Dwar of Parliament, amplifying their message.
Prominent Trinamool Congress MPs have raised this issue in Parliament, with party president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Union minister Nitin Gadkari also advocating for the withdrawal of the GST, arguing it negatively impacts the insurance industry's growth.
