Stock market investors in India saw a devastating loss of Rs 15.32 lakh crore on Monday, following a severe plunge in Indian equities, triggered by a sharp decline in Japanese and other global markets.

The 30-share BSE benchmark crashed by 2,222.55 points, a significant 2.74 per cent drop, closing at 78,759.40, its lowest in over a month. Earlier in the day, it tanked 2,686.09 points, or 3.31 per cent, to 78,295.86.

According to Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP at Mehta Equities Ltd, global market conditions influenced by US recession fears, Japan's interest rate hike, and a volatile Middle East led to the massive sell-off that engulfed all sectors.
