Country Aims for 3,37,900 MW Power Generation Milestone by 2032
Parliament has been informed that the country plans to add 3,37,900 MW of power generation capacity by 2032. Union Minister of State for Power, Shripad Naik, highlighted that 2,14,237 MW was added in the last decade. The projected capacity includes thermal, hydro, nuclear, and renewable sources like solar and wind energy.
The government has outlined an ambitious roadmap to bolster the country's power generation capabilities, aiming to add 3,37,900 MW by 2032, Parliament heard on Monday. Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik conveyed that 2,14,237 MW of electricity generation capacity was integrated over the past decade.
Highlighting substantial progress, Naik stated that the total generation capacity saw an impressive 79.5% increase from 2,48,554 MW in March 2014 to 4,46,190 MW by June 2024. He revealed that an estimated 3,37,900 MW is set to be added by 2032.
The addition includes a diverse mix: 80,000 MW from thermal, 25,010 MW from hydropower, 14,300 MW from nuclear, and 50,760 MW from pump storage plants. Expanding the renewable sector, the country also aims to add 510 MW of small hydro capacity, 1,43,980 MW of solar power, and 23,340 MW of wind power by 2032.
