Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday announced that special camps for enrollment under the government's ambitious financial assistance scheme for women would continue until August 15. The camps, part of the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana (JMMSY), began on August 3 and were initially set to conclude on August 10.
''There is tremendous enthusiasm among lakhs of sisters across the state regarding this scheme. Special camps are being organized till August 10, which I have instructed to extend by 5 more days,'' the CM posted on social media platform X.
In a bid to empower and make women self-reliant, the Jharkhand government recently launched the scheme for women aged 21 to 50. The beneficiaries will receive Rs 1,000 per month. During the concluding day of the state's monsoon assembly session on August 2, the CM said that around 50 lakh women would benefit from the scheme, with annual assistance totaling Rs 12,000 per woman.
The CM further revealed that he has received information about difficulties faced by women in availing themselves of the scheme's benefits. ''I have given instructions for immediate redressal of technical issues and have held meetings with senior officials to address these concerns,'' he said.
Moreover, he emphasized that the scheme's enrollment would continue beyond the special camps, allowing any needy woman to avail of the benefits anytime by visiting their nearest Pragya Kendra (common service center).''I want to tell all of you sisters that this is an ongoing scheme. There is no time limit to avail of the benefits. Even after the special camps, anyone can benefit from the scheme by visiting their nearest Pragya Kendra at any time,'' he posted on X.
The CM also highlighted the issue of middlemen exploiting the scheme's beneficiaries. ''I want to remind everyone that the entire process of this scheme is free. Beware of middlemen. I have instructed all district administrations to take strict action against any reported cases of exploitation,'' he said.
