Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is scheduled to visit the flood-affected areas of Pune on Monday, according to sources. He will meet with the district administration and other agencies involved in disaster relief efforts, the sources added.
Pune has been grappling with continuous heavy rain over the past few days. In response to the relentless rainfall and the release of excess water from the Khadakwasla Dam, the Indian Army conducted relief operations in the Ekta Nagar area on Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Pune, predicting 'heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas, light to moderate rain in the plains'. The IMD also warned of heavy rainfall in isolated ghat areas and moderate rain for August 6, with moderate rainfall expected on August 7.
On July 25, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar visited the flood-affected areas of Ekta Nagar and Vitthal Nagar in Pune to assess the situation. Ajit Pawar remarked that the areas had never experienced such severe flooding before and pledged that the Revenue Department and Municipal Corporation would take necessary actions.
In July, the District Fire Brigade rescued 70 individuals stranded in the floodwaters of Nimbjanagar following heavy rains. (ANI)
