An 11-year-old girl from Delhi has made a remarkable recovery after undergoing life-saving procedures at a private hospital. Initially visiting two emergency rooms with severe chest pain, she was later diagnosed and treated with E-CPR, or extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
Dr. Mridul Agarwal, Senior Consultant Paediatric Cardiology, explained that E-CPR provides crucial support in severe cardiac arrest cases by temporarily taking over heart and lung functions. This allows for oxygenation and blood circulation, giving the patient critical time to recover. "This advanced intervention is essential for saving lives in extreme emergencies," Dr. Agarwal noted.
Dr. Raja Joshi, Chairman of the Department of Paediatric Cardiac Science, initiated the ECMO process, emphasizing its importance. The young girl, whose condition deteriorated rapidly despite medical management, was put on ECMO just in time. Her heart showed significant improvement after seven days, and she was later discharged.
Further tests confirmed that a viral infection, viral myocarditis, had caused her heart issues. Hospital authorities, including Dr. Ajay Swaroop and Dr. D.S. Rana, provided significant support to the family throughout the treatment process. The hospital celebrated her recovery, with the young girl creating a painting to express her gratitude.
