In a key financial move, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday tabled the state budget for the financial year 2024-25, setting a gross expenditure of Rs 34,899 crore. The budget underscores efforts in the agricultural sector and rehabilitation for those hit by natural disasters.
Singh, doubling as the state's finance minister, pegged the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for 2024-25 at Rs 49,937 crore. Acknowledging the challenges faced by farmers due to unrest and natural calamities, Singh emphasized the critical role agriculture plays in Manipur's economy.
Highlighted in the budget are initiatives supported by Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), with Rs 883 crore allocated to agriculture and allied sectors such as fisheries, horticulture, animal husbandry, and organic crops. Following recent inspections by a central team, additional funds have been earmarked for disaster relief and rehabilitation, underlining Manipur's focus on both immediate and long-term recovery strategies.
